Winning the Knowledge Game
Winning the Knowledge Game
by A Rylatt
McGraw Hill Australia, 2003
$34.95
In the 21st century, the most valuable asset corporations possesses is knowledge and their most effective business tool is how well that knowledge can be positioned and exploited within the marketplace. To succeed a company needs a knowledge plan – information, application and learning/innovation. The company must be able to adapt to changing conditions and utilise innovations for its long-term benefit.
Rylatt presents a compelling argument. His message: the key to successful change is a culture of shared knowledge empowered by a system of strategies aimed at improving the different aspects of the enterprise – teamwork, reception of new technologies, retaining employees and so on.
In Winning the Knowledge Game: A smarter
strategy for better business in Australia and NZ, Rylatt comes across as a nice guy – maybe too nice as he doesn’t always make the harsh judgments needed as he examines some of the deplorable management practices harming the Australian business sector. A few more practical examples in a real-life context wouldn’t be amiss either as the rhetoric is insightful but occasionally lacks punch. However, the use of checklists is an excellent way of testing how well a company is implementing the lessons of the book.
