Your Coach (In a Book)

by R Hargrove & M Renaud

Jossey-Bass, 2004

$38.95

Coaching can be an effective method of assisting employees and managers to develop and improve their performance. In their publication, Your Coach (In a Book), authors Robert Hargrave and Michel Renaud propose a new paradigm of leadership development based on coaching leaders in real time versus abstract training programs.

Based on a year’s worth of private coaching at their own consultancy, the authors are very enthusiastic about the coaching methods presented in Your Coach – so much so that they claim it can change the world. But once readers get beyond this hype, they can benefit from a wealth of practical advice on how to advance themselves on a number of fronts to improve careers prospects.

HR professionals will be familiar with many of the concepts raised in the book, but it goes beyond this to examine some of the finer points of executive success, such as mastering politics for the non-politician, building executive coalitions for the future and the art of managing up to get ahead. Hargrave and Renaud draw on an impressive list of clients for case studies.

Each section of the book addresses a typical situation leaders are likely to encounter in their leadership journey, detailing clearly presented strategies, blueprints for the future and templates for action.
