Australian Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Commission

www.hreoc.gov.au

The Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Commission is an independent government body which investigates discrimination complaints based on grounds such as ethnic origin, sexual harassment, marital status, pregnancy, or disability. The Commission is also duty-bound to provide employers with information and the resources necessary to understand their obligations to staff under the legislation.

The Commission’s website includes a large section dedicated to providing employers and human resources practitioners with practical information such as liability provision guides, case study exercises and a guide to establishing complaints procedures.

While numerous links are helpful to HR professionals, probably the two most useful ones are dedicated to developing policies and procedures to combat discrimination and harassment in the workplace, with a step-by-step guide to implementing a successful program to curb and stamp out discrimination and harassment at work.

Navigating the site is a logical and clear cut process, which is critical given the vast amount of information available. Design follow suit with a practical and no-frills layout, which makes getting about all the easier. Worth a browse.
