Using his own advertising agency as a template, Law sets out a new way to successfully manage a company in Experiment at work: explosions and experiences at the most frightening company on earth. Harvard Business Review regards Law’s business, St. Luke’s, as “the most frightening company on earth” with a swathe of innovative management practices that potentially point the way forward for company work practices of the future.
Unlike traditional business practices, where the focus is purely on business growth with a dollar bottom line, St. Luke’s is very much into personal development. By concentrating on employees rather than profits, Law presents a compelling argument that the most valuable asset of a company is its people. Nurture your people, and your company will grow, he argues.
What is astounding about the St. Luke’s ‘experiment is that it is a multi-million pound success story. And it has succeeded with a strong moral ethic, a strong sense of caring for its staff and everybody is given a voice. Its culture runs almost in contradiction of accepted work practices but it works. The book is interesting and full of ideas that seem to work and it will be interesting to see how many managers are prepared to ‘see the light’according to Andy Law.
